Biography

Paolo Fresu, a renowned trumpeter born in Sardinia in 1961, has recorded around 500 titles, showcasing a distinctive sound spanning straight jazz to fusion. Besides his musical achievements, he serves as the artistic director for Berchidda’s Time in Jazz festival. Living between Paris, Bologna, and Sardinia, Fresus unique trumpet sound is recognized in the contemporary jazz scene.

Omar Sosa, an extraordinary contemporary pianist, blends jazz, Cuban, and world music with strong African roots. Born from a classical background, Sosa draws inspiration from Cuba and African ethnic music. In "Promise," premiered in 2008, Sosa collaborates with Paolo Fresu, creating a musical universe where their sensibilities find common ground without sacrificing identity.

Miklós Lukács, a versatile cimbalom player, seamlessly combines contemporary music, jazz, and folk from various cultures. Soloist with prestigious orchestras and collaborator with jazz greats, Lukács has received recognition and awards, including Hungarian Heritage and Arts prizes. As a jazz representative, hes the first elected to the Széchenyi Academy of Arts and Literature.

With the famous BIX Jazzclub, jazzopen stuttgart has a long-standing partner for intimate and high-quality jazz concerts. Whether up-and-coming talent or jazz star, the entire diversity of current jazz culture is presented here over nine days during the jazzopen festival.
