Angélique Kidjo
Angélique Kidjo, a four-time Grammy Award winner and one of the leading artists in the international music scene, has had an impressive career with thirteen albums to her name. She has been called "Africas leading diva" and is one of the continents 50 most important personalities according to the BBC. Kidjo was also listed as one of the 100 most inspirational women in the world by The Guardian and was the first woman to be included in the list of the most powerful personalities in Africa by Forbes Magazine. Her achievements are reflected in prestigious awards, including the Crystal Award from the World Economic Forum and the Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award.
As an artist, Kidjo has gained worldwide respect for her distinctive voice, stage presence and ability to master different cultures and languages. She combines West African traditions with elements of R&B, funk and jazz, complemented by influences from Europe and Latin America.
In 2018, she released a rendition of the Talking Heads classic "Remain in Light", recorded by superstar producer Jeff Bhasker. Kidjo toured the world with this musical extravaganza, playing Carnegie Hall and the Bonnaroo Festival.
Her albums "DJIN DJIN", “EVE” and her orchestral album with the Orchestre Philharmonique Du Luxembourg won a Grammy.. In addition to music, she released a memoir in 2014.
Kidjo has performed with various international orchestras and collaborated with Philip Glass. She is also a UNICEF and OXFAM ambassador and is involved in education and charity work. In 2018, she sang "Blewu" under the Arc de Triomphe in front of 70 presidents to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, as a tribute to African soldiers.

Opener: Daniel Torres
Daniel Torres is recognized as one of the leading contemporary jazz saxophonists. He has collaborated with renowned players from the international jazz scene and has performed at prestigious venues worldwide, including the "Bimhuis" in Amsterdam and the "Four Seasons Centre" in Toronto. The members of the sextet are Joris Teepe on bass, Perico Sambeat on alto saxophone, Owen Hart Jr. on drums, Juan Galiardo on piano, Carlos Cortés on percussion, and Daniel Torres on tenor saxophone and compositions.

Concert venue

The Renaissance arcade courtyard of the Old Castle provides a unique atmosphere for unforgettable concert experiences. The Old Castle in Stuttgart will be the main stage for the first 5 days of the jazzopen from 18 to 22 July 2024. High-quality greats of jazz, blues and soul music will be presented here and there will also be room for adjacent genres, true to the motto: be jazz, be open.
